Excellence... Who earns it? How do YOU get it?

We have all seen that logo...but what does it mean? What is required to get it? What is "behind" it? ASE, is short for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Since 1972 the independent non-profit organization has worked to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service by testing and certifying automotive professionals. Because the ASE program is primarily voluntary, ASE certification becomes a self-selecting credential that weeds out the incompetent.ASE certification was created to help make automotive technicians better. It's a tool that helps our technicians grow, learn and increase performance. Recent research shows that the act of preparing to take an ASE Certification exam actually improves a service tech's knowledge and retention. Other research shows a greater first-fix accuracy, lower comebacks, and higher customer service index (CSI). ASE Certification provides standards of knowledge the industry agrees upon and a way to identify those above-average individuals most employers are looking for. Those who pass a battery of exams (and fulfill the experience requirement) earn Master Technician status. There are specialty exams covering all major areas of repair . There are eight tests for auto technicians alone: Engine Repair, Engine Performance, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Brakes, Heating and Air Conditioning, Suspension and Steering, Manual Drive Train and Axles, and Automatic Transmissions. ASE requires technicians to re-test every five years to keep up with technology and to remain certified. Repair establishments with at least one ASE technician are permitted to display the ASE sign. Each ASE professional is issued personalized credentials listing his or her exact areas of certification and an appropriate shoulder insignia. Technicians are also issued certificates that employers often post in the customer service area. Come by Street Tech Auto Care and see our certifications. (You know you want to!)
